Hajjar Competition: private residence
Location: State College, PA
3rd year studio (spring 2012): 1 week
Award: honorable mention
The competition brief called for the design of a residence for a book collector of the genre of our choosing: in this case, survival manuals & literature. As a result, the house becomes as minimal as possible, reducing its impact & footprint. Perched above the ground, it is situated based on the trees on site, ensuring that none would need to be removed. This residence aims to call into question how much space & how many possessions a person truly needs, trimming the fat & eliminating excesses. It pares the house down to bare essentials, producing the ideal home for the survival enthusiast & their collection of literature.
